Teen rescued from Federal Way's Steel Lake in near-drowning

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - A teen was rescued from Steel Lake in Federal Way on Sunday afternoon after he disappeared below the water while swimming there.

Emergency divers responded to the scene at about 2:15 p.m. after receiving a call about a possible drowning at a small park on the lake.

Chuck Kahler of South King County Fire & Rescue said the teen was probably underwater for about 30 minutes before he was pulled out. He said the bottom of the lake is very muddy, which made it harder to locate the teen.

Rescue swimmers found him in about 12 feet of water. He was brought to the dock, and medics administered CPR and advanced life support before rushing him to St. Francis Hospital.

His condition is unknown at this time, but he was said to be breathing as he was being taken to the hospital.
