Tacoma police chase ends in crash on I-5

TACOMA, Wash. -- Police in Tacoma say a brief Tuesday afternoon car chase ended with a crash on southbound I-5.

An officer first watched a Subaru Wagon hit another car at South11th Street and South Altheimer Street sometime after 4 p.m.

The driver refused to stop after the crash and the officer gave chase, according to Loretta Cool with the Tacoma Police Department.

The Subaru careened through a fenced-off area and onto I-5 before crashing into the median barrier. A red car and two trucks were also involved in the crash, Cool said.

The man driving the Subaru suffered minor injuries in the wreck and was taken to Tacoma General Hospital for treatment.

None of the other drivers were injured, but the wreck clogged traffic on southbound I-5, leaving cars backed up for miles.
