Sketch released of attempted kidnapping suspect

LACEY, Wash. -- Thurston County Sheriff's deputies have released a sketch of a man suspected in an attempted kidnapping of a 10-year-old girl Sunday evening.

The girl was taking out the garbage around 6:20 p.m. at her home in the 7000 block of Merkel Way NE when she says a man grabbed her and tried to take her into his car. She was able to break free and the car drove off before police could arrive.

"She was able to yell and kick and throw some swings and was able to get away from the suspect," said Sgt. Ray Brady with the Lacey Police Department.

The girl described the kidnapper as a younger Hispanic man, about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a skinny build, dark skin, and dark, buzzed cut hair, deputies said. The suspect also has a scar or burn mark on the left side of his face and has hazel eyes.

The girl said the man was wearing a baseball hat, T-shirt, and dark gray pants, driving an older, beat up, Honda type vehicle, that was dark green with peeling paint.

She said another man was in the passenger seat but wasn't able to get a good look at him.

Deputies said the girl had some scratch marks on her arm but didn't need to be treated.

Investigators ask if anyone has information on the case, to call the Thurston County Sheriff's department.
