Sheraton's gingerbread village makes mouths water this weekend
Get your sweet tooth ready. Gingerbread, gumdrops and plenty of sweet treats will fill the Sheraton Hotel this weekend.
The hotel and local partners unveiled a gingerbread village fit for royalty. Local architecture firms and trade associations teamed up with the Sheraton's culinary staff to create six fairytale-inspired castles with the theme, "Once Upon a Time." Professionals donate more than 400 hours of experience to design, bake, and build the gingerbread masterpieces. The pieces are on display now until Jan. 1.
This year, six architecture firms - DLR Group, MulvannyG2 Architecture, Callison Architects, Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties, 4D Architects and Weber Thompson - have lent their talents to the show.
The gingerbread creations will be displayed in the hotel's lobby and visitors will have the chance to vote for their favorite display throughout the duration of the exhibit. The event is free to the public, but donations to the Northwest Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation are encouraged and appreciated. The Gingerbread Village has raised more than $600,000 for JDRF in the past 19 years and welcomes about 100,000 visitors annually. All donations raised at the Gingerbread Village go directly to JDRF.
