The woman was later arrested in SeaTac, Seattle police said.
The incident unfolded just after 6 a.m. in the 9400 block of 11th Avenue SW, near Westcrest Park in West Seattle. Medics and police quickly responded to the scene after receiving a report of a pedestrian struck by a hit-and-run driver in a residential neighborhood.
Arriving at the scene, officers and medics found the victim who had been struck and injured by a car. Police say the stolen Cadillac hit the man with such force that it knocked him right out of his Air Jordans.
They say the victim was wearing those shoes and a red Mariners hat early Wednesday morning outside his home when he saw someone breaking into his car. He stepped in front of it - and the female suspect stepped on the gas.
"Stole his car, ran him over with his own car," says Kelly Horror-Deal, the victim's stepmother.
The victim suffered head trauma and other trauma to his body, said Kyle Moore of the Seattle Fire Department. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
Horror-Deal told KOMO News that her stepson. Xavier, nearly lost one of his ears when he was run over.
"Almost severed off, I believe. That's what they said. It was hanging there," she says.
Police say another woman who was with the victim saw the 23-year-old suspect in the car and knows who she is. She directed police to the suspect's home in Federal Way, but when they got there she was gone.
Just before noon, officers spotted the woman with the stolen Cadillac in SeaTac and arrested her. She's been booked into the King County Jail while an investigation continues.
Meanwhile, Horror-Deal says her stepson is expected to recover, but she can't imagine who would want to hurt him.
"I can't imagine," she says. "I just can't imagine what kind of person would - what makes somebody think that? That they can do it?"
