A resident in the 1900 block of 3rd Avenue called 911 just after midnight Sunday morning to say a man was standing on the sidewalk with a gun.
The witness said the man was talking on a phone while threatening someone with the .40 Smith & Wesson, according to police.
Officers arrived on scene moments later and found the gunman near Virginia Street. When he saw the police cars, the man took off on foot. After a brief foot chase through downtown Seattle, officers caught up with the suspect.
A records check showed the pistol was reported stolen in a 2010 car prowl in Seattle. After running the man's name, officers also learned the suspect was a convicted felon with warrants out.
He was arrested and booked into King County Jail for investigation of violation of the uniform firearms law and for a federal warrant.
