Raw: Port Angeles smokestack finally topples

PORT ANGELES - Engineers have succeeded in the demolition of a 175-foot smokestack at the former Peninsula Plywood mill Monday.

After activating explosive devices on the 72-year-old smokestack, engineers found that a web of rebar inside the concrete was able to withstand the explosion.

Several hours later, engineers began using electrical saws to cut through the rebar at the base of the tower.

The tower finally crumbled late Monday evening.
