PORT ANGELES - Engineers attempted to demolish a 175-foot smokestack at the former Peninsula Plywood mill Monday. The smokestack failed to crumble, as a rebar cage inside the concrete withstood explosives. Engineers have started using electrical saws to cut through the rebar at the base of the tower.
UPDATE: Engineers finally managed to topple the smokestack Monday evening.
