Not only can you save some dough when you make your home more energy-efficient, you can also make it beautiful.
Puget Sound Energy's "Re-Energized by Design" contest will have six PSE energy or gas customers competing to see who can decorate the best household room, using the newest, fanciest, energy-efficient products, including ones from GE and Frigidaire.
"This is a brand-new concept for us at PSE," said Cal Shirley, vice president of Customer Solutions. "Our customers are familiar with the energy and money-saving benefits of efficient products, and we want people to know that these products are now some of the most beautiful on the market - and they are eligible for PSE rebates. We're excited to give our customers the tools to get creative in using efficiency as a complement to great design in their homes."
The six contestants will participate in a room-by-room makeover challenge, displaying both design and functionality. Each contestant's work will be judged by a local celebrity panel, with the lowest scoring designer eliminated each round.
All contestants will receive free, efficient LED and CFL lighting from GE, and will have a cash stipend from PSE to buy things like paint. The grand prize is $5,000, along with the final three all winning some great prizes by Frigidaire, including a washer and dryer, and an ultra-efficient kitchen set.
Sound like fun? All you have to do to enter is submit a two-minute video, before October 31, saying why you want to enter, and if PSE picks your video, voila! The public will be able to follow each of the contestants through "webisodes" featured on the site.
