Police: Woman's neck cut several times by ex-boyfriend

EVERETT, Wash. -- A 20-year-old woman is recovering from stab wounds at a Seattle hospital after she was attacked by her ex-boyfriend, police said.

Officers raced to the Safeway store in the 7600 block of Evergreen Way Wednesday evening for a report that a woman was screaming that someone had cut her neck.

The victim told officers she went to the Safeway with her ex-boyfriend to talk about their relationship and while out front, the man pulled out a knife and slashed her several times along the neck. The man ran off as the woman screamed and witnesses called 911.

The victim was initially taken to Providence Medical Center in Everett but was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Officers said her condition is not known, but she was expected to survive.

Meanwhile, officers searched the area but didn't find their suspected attacker, who they have since identified as 28-year-old Yonathan A. Carreno Duarte of Lynnwood. He's described as Hispanic with a receding hairline and a tattoo on the back of his right shoulder. He was last seen wearing a short sleeved shirt, jeans and tennis shoes and possibly has a cut on his hand.

Police say Duarte owns a silver 2000 BMW with Washington license plate 835-ZRS and an arrest warrant has been issued for him to face investigation of first degree assault. If you see him or know where he is, you're asked to call 911.
