The incident unfolded at about 11:40 p.m. Sunday as officers responded to reports of two people fighting outside the Seattle Fire Department station in the 5900 block of Rainier Avenue South, said Detective Jeff Kappel of the Seattle police.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found two men who had been fighting. As they were being interviewed, one of the men took off running.
Officers chased him and caught him a short distance later. While escorting the suspect back to the patrol car, the suspect head-butted a female officer in the face, knocking her backward into some bushes, Kappel said.
Other officers at the scene quickly gained control of the suspect and placed him under arrest.
The officer who was assaulted sustained non-life-threatening injuries to her face. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The assault suspect was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of felony assault on a police officer.
