Police: Pierce County couple linked to 65 burglaries

SAMMAMISH, Wash. (AP) - Police say they've recovered property stolen in more than five dozen burglaries that hit victims in four Puget Sound-area counties and three cities in Oregon.

Two people have been arrested.

Police in Sammamish say detectives have tied property seized last week from a storage unit in the Puyallup area to the multitude of thefts. Stolen items ranged from a soldier's Purple Heart and Bronze Star military medals to jewelry, silver and sports memorabilia.

Sammamish police Sgt. Jessica Sullivan said Monday that a 26-year-old Pierce County man and his 26-year-old girlfriend were arrested.

Sullivan says detectives expect to recommend charges including burglary, theft and possession of stolen property.

The man remains in custody in King County Jail, but the woman was booked and released.

Detectives are in the process of notifying victims, who range from the Oregon cities of Portland, Beaverton and Tigard to Washington communities from Thurston County north to Snohomish County.
