Police: Man shoots ex-girlfriend after arguing over food stamps

LAKEWOOD, Wash. - A woman's ex-boyfriend opened fire through a closed door and shot her in the abdomen Thursday night after an argument about food stamps and money, police said.

The incident unfolded at about 7:20 p.m. in the Pacific Ridge Apartments, 13020 Lincoln Ave SW in Lakewood, said Lt. Chris Lawler of the Lakewood police.

The woman was in an apartment with her new boyfriend when her ex-boyfriend, who had just been released from prison, showed up with a friend.

An argument ensued over food stamps and money.

As they were leaving, the ex-boyfriend fired off two rounds, Lawler said. One hit an unoccupied car and the other went through the apartment door and struck the woman in the abdomen.

She was taken to the hospital and immediately underwent emergency surgery. Her injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

The ex-boyfriend fled the scene, and police are now looking for him, Lawler said.
