Police: Fire at Lacey hotel was arson

LACEY, Wash. -- The fire that broke out Friday in a Lacey hotel room was intentionally started by the room's resident, who was later arrested while hiding in the bushes nearby, according to the Lacey Police Department.

Firefighters were called to the Quality Inn at 120 College St. S.E. shortly after 4 p.m. for a fire that started in one of the rooms. The hotel's sprinkler system was able to put out the fire.

After an investigation, it became apparent the fire was intentionally started by lighting items in the room's bathroom on fire, according to police. The room's smoke alarm had also apparently been removed.

The man registered to the room, 37-year-old Thurston County resident Guy Sanchez, was seen leaving the hotel shortly before the fire alarms sounded, according to police.

Officers found and arrested Sanchez when they heard someone was hiding in the bushes behind the hotel.

Sanchez was booked into Thurston County Jail for investigation of arson as well as an outstanding warrant.
