Police detain man accused of lunging at kids in Ballard park

SEATTLE -- Police have identified and detained a man who some parents say was leering at kids and lunged at two of them at Ballard's Salmon Bay Park Monday evening.

Parents called 911 after they scattered. The man was gone by the time police arrived.

Wednesday, police responded to Ballard Commons Park for a report of a suspicious person. Officers arrived and found the man had severe mental health issues and had been reported missing from Montana, said Det. Renee Witt with Seattle police.

Witt said the man is also the suspect from the Monday incident.

The man will undergo a mental health evaluation at a Seattle hospital. Witt says the man will likely not be charged with any crime.
