Police chase ends in head-on crash on West Seattle Bridge

SEATTLE -- A Wednesday night police chase ended with a violent head-on crash on the West Seattle Bridge.

The chase started sometime around 6:30 p.m. when a Tukwila police officer got word of a possible stolen truck heading northbound on Interstate 5 near the Southcenter Mall.

The officer spotted the truck, confirmed it was stolen and attempted to pull over the female driver, according to Tukwila police. The driver refused to stop, and the chase continued northbound on I-5 until the truck exited the interstate, heading west toward the West Seattle Bridge.

Once on the bridge, the truck hit a median barrier and spun 180 degrees, leaving it facing the oncoming police cruisers. Instead of giving up, police say the driver gunned the truck and rammed head-on into a police cruiser at roughly 6:40 p.m.

The woman and her two passengers then jumped out of the truck and tried to get away on foot, but all three were soon apprehended.

One police officer was injured in the crash. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center, but is expected to be fine.

The crash snarled westbound traffic as police investigated and worked to clear the wreckage.

Police say the driver, who has not been identified, will likely be charged with felony assault, felony eluding and felony possession of a stolen vehicle.
