Chad Boyles filed a federal civil rights lawsuit requesting $3 million in damages. The case was expected to go to trial this summer.
Boyles settled with Pierce County even though the injuries were inflicted by a Lakewood police dog. The dog and his handler had been called to help Pierce County officers search for a person wanted for domestic violence.
Boyles was out for a walk when the dog attacked him. An injury to his arm required surgery. The same dog and his handler have been named in several lawsuits involving serious dog bites. The dog has retired from police duty.
