TACOMA, Wash. -- A person was found dead inside a burning home in Tacoma early Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to a fire burning at a home in the 2100 block of S. 'J' Street just before 5 a.m. When firefighters entered the home to begin fighting the flames they discovered an unconscious person on the second floor. The person was brought outside and then pronounced dead by medics.

The home was supposed to be unoccupied and the dead person is believed to be a transient, said Battalion Chief Ray Manglona with Tacoma Fire. No other injuries were reported.
