One dead in Edmonds apartment fire

EDMONDS, Wash. -- Firefighters responding to a Monday evening apartment fire in Edmonds were shocked to find a dead body inside the unit.

Neighbors near the apartment complex, which is located at 240th St. SW and 86th Ave. W., first smelled smoke in the second story unit and called 911 just before 6:15 p.m., according to Leslie Hynes of Snohomish County Fire District 1

Fire crews arrived on scene moments later and were able to quickly extinguish the small fire. While they were inside the unit, firefighters noticed a dead body.

It's unclear how the victim died, and Hynes would only say the victim was an adult. The fire is now under investigation.
