Newspaper deliveryman fights off would-be robber
SEATTLE -- As if print journalism didn't have enough to worry about at the moment, now newspaper deliverymen need to be on the lookout for robbers, apparently.
A Seattle newspaper deliveryman was standing outside his van around 7 a.m. Sunday morning near Ninth Avenue Northeast and Northeast 48th Street when he was approached by two men.
According to the Seattle Police Department, one of the men tried to grab the deliveryman's key ring twice.
The deliveryman was able to fight him off. But when the deliveryman went to grab his cellphone out of his van, the would-be robber grabbed him from behind, tearing his satchel, according to police.
The deliveryman fought the man off again, and the would-be robber and other man ran off, according to police.
Officers found the suspected robber nearby and found his alleged accomplice a short time later following a chase through yards and over fences.
The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of robbery.
The second man was not arrested after the deliveryman told officers he didn't participate in the robbery attempt and may have been trying to dissuade the suspect.
