Newcastle house fire displaces family of 4

NEWCASTLE, Wash. (AP) - Fire officials say a Thursday morning fire in Newcastle has displaced a family of four.

The Bellevue Fire Department says a college student driving home for the Thanksgiving holiday spotted the fire.

He alerted the residents and called 911 at about 12: 20 a.m. A smoke detector in the home eventually sounded as the fire that started on the outside of the garage extended into the attic space above the living area.

Four family members managed to get outside of the house. No one was hurt in the blaze.

Fire damage is estimated at about $80,000. Fire officials are working to determine the cause of the blaze.

Officials say the American Red Cross is helping the family.
