Motorcyclist killed, passenger hurt in I-5 crash near Southcenter

TUKWILA, Wash. - A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger was injured when he lost control of his bike and crashed while exiting Interstate 5 on Sunday afternoon, the Washington State Patrol reported.

State troopers responded to the scene, I-5 at the Southcenter Boulevard exit, at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a crash involving a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, later identified as Rory D. Hinton, 55, was found dead at the scene. His passenger, a 54-year-old Renton woman, was injured in the crash and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

A preliminary investigation found that Hinton's motorcycle, a 2007 Harley-Davidson, was heading south on I-5 approaching Southcenter Boulevard.

As Hinton attempted to pull off the freeway at the exit, the motorcycle slammed into the curb near the guardrail, causing him to lose control. Both riders were thrown from the motorcycle.

Drugs or alcohol were believed to be a factor in the crash.
