Man stabbed to death in fight with suspected teenage car thief

RENTON, Wash. - A man was stabbed in the torso and died after he and his brothers confronted a 16-year-old suspect who had tried to break into a car belonging to one of the brothers, Renton police said.

The incident began at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday when the 22-year-old victim and his brothers reportedly saw the 16-year-old attempting to break in to one brother's parked car in the 200 block of SW 5th Place.

The brothers confronted him and a fight ensued between the victim and the 16-year-old suspect. During the fight, the victim was stabbed twice in the torso.

Officers and medics responded to the scene. The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he died during surgery.

The 16-year-old and another person with him were arrested at the scene, and the apparent murder weapon was recovered.

The name of the victim was not immediately available.
