Gang detectives observed two men near 1st Avenue and Blanchard Street around 1:30 a.m. Police say the pair was arguing, and one of the men was holding a handgun.
As officers approached the pair, the suspect took off running northbound with the gun in his hand. Detectives chased and shot the man, striking him at least once in the buttocks, according to reports.
The man kept running northbound down the 2200 block of 2nd Avenue before attempting to hide under a car in a nearby parking lot. Detectives quickly found the man hiding and took him into custody without further problems.
The man's black handgun was later found by detectives on the sidewalk near a garbage can.
Medics arrived on scene and provided aid to the man before transporting him to Harborview with non-life-threatening injuries.
No other injuries were reported, and officers say they spent the majority of Saturday night through Sunday morning handling dozens of disturbance calls, including numerous fights.
