Emergency personnel responded to the scene, the Theta Delta Chi fraternity house in the 4500 block of 19th Avenue NE, just before 3 a.m. after receiving a report of a fall from a window, said Kyle Moore of the Seattle Fire Department.
Medics discovered that the 25-year-old man had landed in a stairwell that led to the basement of the building, Moore said. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center.
Moore said the man was conscious and alert after the fall but had multiple injuries.
Falls from windows have been a recurring problem at UW frat houses.
In June 2008, UW junior Kevin MacDonald died when he fell from the third story window of a frat house. The very next month, another student plummeted off a ladder at the Theta Chi house and was hospitalized with severe injuries.
In 2009, an intoxicated student was seriously injured after falling 30 feet from a third-story window at a different frat house.
Since the 1980s, more than a dozen students have died or suffered a broken neck or vertebrae in a fall at a UW fraternity house, records show.
