The shooting happened sometime before 7:30 p.m. in the 15200 block of Meadow Road, according to Aaron Snell with the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team.
Neighbors in the area say they heard fireworks going off a short time before Snohomish County deputies arrived.
At some point after deputies arrived on scene, there was an altercation and at least one deputy opened fire on the man.
"I could hear the officers yelling, 'Drop the gun, get on the ground!' for about twenty seconds. And after that, what seemed about ten shots that went off," said neighbor Zachary Schrefen.
That man was hit at least once and taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to Snell.
No deputies were injured in the shooting, and the name of the man who was killed has not been released.
The shooting is under investigation.
