Nothing says summer like an outdoor festival. And if that outdoor festival happens to be on the Long Beach Peninsula, you've got the perfect summer combination. There are several festivals happening in Long Beach during the warmer months, here's a sneak peek at a few that are coming up.
Happening all summer long, from May 24th - September 1st, Summerfest offers the best of Long Beach every weekend. With different musical performances and entertainers, free horse-pulled wagon rides and a family sidewalk chalk competition each weekend, kids of all ages (and their parents) will find something that suits their fancy. Spend the day on the sand, and then browse the local shops while the little ones get their faces painted. Check out the lineup of events and entertainment here.
Show off the skills of man's best friend on June 28th and 29th during the Doggie Olympics. Dogs of all shapes, sizes, breeds and ages will come together to compete in several events like Frisbee Throw, Dunking for Dogs and Peanut Butter Lick (which dog can lick a spoon, held in their owners mouth, clean of peanut butter the fastest?). There's even a competition for "Best Shedder." Sure to have you laughing all weekend long, this event is perfect pet owners and dog lovers. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, SandSations is a sand castle competition for all ages and skill levels. The event takes place from July 16th - 20th, beginning with master artists sculpting their works in downtown Long Beach. Over three days they'll bring their sculptures to life and be available to answer questions and demonstrate techniques. On Saturday the sand sculpting contest on the beach takes place, with six hours of sculpting time allowed for several categories. There are several other activities planned throughout the weekend including; fireworks at dusk on Friday, a free community bonfire at Bolstad on Friday (with free S'more kits for the first 100 people) and a musical performance by Northwest Pan Man. Take your shoes off, grab a shovel and dig in to the fun!
