Kirkland church applies to host homeless camp
A church in Kirkland has filed a temporary use permit application to host a homeless encampment starting next month.
Trinity Lutheran Church filed an application with the city to serve as the next location for Camp Unity.
Tenants from the homeless encampment are former residents of Tent City 4 and created their own camp at Lake Washington United Methodist Church, on 132nd Avenue Northeast, last November.
The current permit for Campy Unity runs out today, Thursday, Feb. 14 , but tenants are being allowed to stay at the location for another three weeks while city officials review the permit for the new location.
As required by the city's permitting process, Trinity will hold a community meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 19, to inform the community about the homeless encampment and answer any questions from neighbors.
The meeting is planned for 7:00p.m. at Trinity Lutheran, 11920 Northeast 80th Street.
If approved by city planners, Camp Unity would move to its new location on March 9.
