Kent firefighters rescue 13 ducklings from storm drain

KENT, Wash. -- Kent firefighters had their hands full -- quite literally -- in rescuing 13 ducks from a storm drain Wednesday afternoon.

A person walking along 116th Ave. SE stopped by the Kent Easthill fire station to report that some ducklings had fallen into a storm drain and couldn't get out, said Don Barberie with Kent Fire.

Three firefighters went to the drain and were able to reach down and pluck each one to safety. The ducklings were put in a bucket and then released in a pond across the street, much to the relief of the mother duck who had been flying around and watching the rescue.

Barberie says the mother duck returned to the pond to care for her ducklings.
