Jewelry courier robbed by men wielding ice picks

SEATTLE -- Four men armed with ice picks robbed a traveling jewelry courier on his way to meet clients at Northgate Mall on Wednesday, according to the Seattle Police Department.

The courier had just gotten out of his car with a traveling suitcase and tote bag containing jewelry and diamonds around 10:45 a.m. when a car pulled up alongside him.

According to police, four masked men wielding ice picks hopped out of the car, pushing the courier and puncturing his tires.

The men drove off with the courier's suitcase in a silvery blue van, and officers were unable to locate them, according to police.

"The loss was substantial," police stated in a press release.

Last month, thieves made off with $500,000 in jewels when they broke into a courier's car on Mercer Island.
