The girl was walking home with a male friend at 3:45 p.m.when she heard a "pop," according to King County sheriff's Sgt. Cindy West. She immediately realized she had been shot in the torso with either a small-caliber bullet or pellet.
West said the girl was taken to Harborview Medical Center to have the object removed. On Tuesday morning she was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit.
A mother with a child at St. Francis of Assisi said school officials posted a message about the shooting on the school's Facebook page. The message said the shooting appears to be entirely random, but asked parents to drop off and pick up their children at the school's carport area.
West said the 14-year-old victim is in good condition.
Deputies are investigating the shooting. The victim saw a red car in the area when the shooting happened, but investigators aren't yet sure if the shooter was in a car.
