If there's one thing people of the Northwest know, it's sustainability.
Locals can celebrate all their greenie goodness this Saturday at the South Sound Sustainability Expo in Tacoma. The free event offers an opportunity for residents and business owners in the greater-Tacoma area to discover services, products, companies, and agencies that address sustainability needs in the community.
This event was first created in 2008 by a consortium of Tacoma/Pierce County higher education institutions. Since the City of Tacoma's creation of the Office of Sustainability in 2010, the Expo has been sponsored and held at the Tacoma Convention Center.
This year, expo participants will learn about a variety of local goods and services, including: transportation alternatives, green construction, energy conservation, waste minimization and recycling, alternative energy sources, global climate change initiatives, and how to be economically efficient while being sustainable. Workshops will range from urban chicken cooping to starting a food garden and creating composing worm bins.
