Fixture in Ravenna neighborhood celebrates 60 years

Larry Jorgenson, a fixture for nearly 30 years in the Ravenna neighborhood in Northeast Seattle, celebrated his 60th birthday at the Ravenna Eckstein Community Center last week.

Rain or shine, Larry mans the doorway at the Center (or alternately, the tennis court bench in nearby Ravenna Park), greeting patrons and visitors with a purposeful, boisterous and enthusiastic, "Hi, I'm Larry!".

He is a weather forecasting aficionado, and often launches into a long-range seasonal outlook rivaling that of any Farmer's Almanac.

Party-goers packed into the Center to don colored hats, sign his giant birthday card, and enjoy cupcakes with the neighborhood's unofficial Ambassador of good-will and good news.

While the clouds often obscure the blue sky in our City by the Sound, Larry's sunny disposition and outlook on life brightens the day of all who have come to know him. Happy 60th, Larry!
