One fire shortly after 4 a.m. burned a pickup truck near 41st Street. Firefighters were able to prevent that blaze from spreading to a nearby garage.
The second fire burned a garage, vehicle and two trailers in the 4300 block of Yakima Avenue. Crews were able to extinguish that fire before it spread to 240 gallons of propane stored in tanks nearby.
The fires were reported within a half hour of each other and about two blocks apart. The fire department isn't certain the arsons are related but police are investigating.
The owner of the garage that burned says the fire started with a blast or explosion.
"I was sound asleep, and I heard a big bang," he says. "I looked out my bedroom window, and then I saw flames coming up, so I called 911. And they said, 'Is that 41st Street?' And I said, 'No, it's 43rd,' so we had a couple of fires going tonight."
