Evacuations ordered after drug lab found at Tukwila motel

TUKWILA, Wash. -- Hazardous materials crews have evacuated three buildings in Tukwila after a drug lab was discovered in a motel room, fire officials said.

A member of the motel cleaning staff at America's Best Value Inn made the discovery inside a room at 3:25 p.m., prompting management to call for help, said Martin Grisham with Tukwila Fire.

Hazmat crews arrived and ordered the evacuation of three buildings near the scene at 14675 Interurban Avenue.

The room had been rented, but the motel guest was not in the room when the drug lab was discovered, Grisham said. The man was originally cooperating with police but Grisham says he's not sure where the man was now.

No one has been hurt.

Fire officials were working to neutralize the chemicals and police were investigating the crime aspect of the event, Grisham said.
