There will now be a 45-day review period during which the public can comment on the study, including at two public meetings. The comment period will end Sept. 30.
The study reviewed five options: the proposed arena plan; no action at the proposed site; a smaller arena on the proposed site; a 20,000-seat arena where KeyArena currently sits; and a 20,000-seat arena at Memorial Stadium near KeyArena. There will be further review of impact and mitigation for all options before the final study is released.
Investor Chris Hansen has proposed a $490 million arena with $290 million in private investment in Seattle's SoDo area in the hopes of bringing the NBA back.
King County County Executive Dow Constantine calls the draft's release an important milestone.
"A great deal of public comment has been heard so far, and we look forward to hearing additional comments from stakeholders and the public," Constantine said in a statement released to the media.
Both he and Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn say they don't have a preference on the site, they want the process to play out.
The two public meetings will be held Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. at Bertha Landes Room at Seattle City Hall, and again on Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Fidalgo Room at Seattle Center. Or you can submit a comment online.
