Eastside student channels Rick Astley, gets prom date

Teenagers all over our state are popping an important question this spring: will you go to the prom with me?

But this local student got more creative than most - with a little persistence - and some 80's pop music.

The result was an impromptu prom proposal at Eastside Catholic High School that became a huge hit at the school.

"I was really nervous. I was really scared," senior Andy Ehrig said. "She was stunned, she was not expecting it at all. I wanted to do something big."

And he did, Rick-rolling his future prom date, Sarah Richardson, ambushing her in first period Wednesday with a choreographed performance of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up," along with his closest friends---who for this proposal--didn't let him down.

"I had no idea he was going to have a whole choreographed dance routine," Richardson said. "It was cool."

"My friend told me because I have red hair I look like the Rick Astley guy," Ehrig said.

"With the slicked back hair and the coat on he really did look like Rick Astley," said his friend Dylan.

The pop song-turned-YouTube joke--is older than all of these high school seniors.

But it's nabbed Andy a prom date, and also set the bar incredibly high.

"I think it was cool. By far the best prom asking I've been involved in so far," Dylan said. "When it comes down to it, when it comes to that moment he can do anything. He really can."

Ehrig already says he's going to ask the disc jockey to play Rick Astley at the Eastside Catholic prom on May 18th so they can re-create the dance.
