State troopers and emergency personnel responded to the scene, the southbound lanes of I-5 near the 164th Street interchange, at about 5:40 a.m. after receiving a report of a serious crash.
Arriving at the scene, they found a car in flames. The driver, an 18-year-old Granite Falls man, was ejected from the vehicle but was conscious and able to walk after the accident. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center to be checked out.
Washington State Patrol trooper Keith Leary says it was a single-car accident caused by a mechanical problem - probably a blown rear tire.
Two lanes of the freeway were blocked initially but both have now been cleared.
