Police and medics responded to the scene, the QFC store at 9999 Holman Road NW, just after 5 a.m. after receiving a report of a serious injury accident.
A preliminary investigation found that the delivery truck driver had backed her truck into the loading dock area behind the store, then got out of her truck and walked into the store to get an employee to assist her with unloading, said Detective Mark Jamieson of the Seattle police.
When the driver and the employee returned to the truck they saw the man pinned between the loading dock and truck. The workers immediately called 911 and Seattle medics and police responded.
Witnesses told KOMO Newsradio that the truck driver did not see the man. Witnesses also said it appeared that the victim is a homeless man who intentionally got behind the truck as it backed slowly in.
Police are investigating at the scene, where yellow crime scene tape surrounds a Lays-Doritos delivery truck next to the loading dock.
The mother of the woman who was driving the truck arrived later at the scene. She spoke briefly with her daughter, who said the man wasn't there when she looked in her mirrors to begin backing down the delivery drive to the loading dock. The mother says her daughter is very shaken up.
Police evaluated the driver and said she did not show any signs of impairment from drugs or alcohol.
The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center with critical, life-threatening injuries.
