A complaint filed against Little Lambs child care center says the owner and four staff members saw unexplained bruises on the 3-year-old prior to his death, but never reported them to Child Protective Services or police as required.
Then later, detectives say the boy, Terric Davis, suffered serious injuries at home while his mother was at work and her boyfriend Derrick Myers was watching him.
The boy died at the hospital later that night.
Myers pleaded not guilty to murder and remains in jail.
The state has suspended Little Lambs' license until further notice. The child care center has 28 days to request a hearing to contest the complaint.
Eva Lahman brings her kids to Little Lambs. She said staff called her on Tuesday to pick up her kids, but didn't know why at the time.
"I don't think that anything that happened with that little boy has anything to do with her. I think it was the irresponsibility of that parent," she said.
Little Lambs did not respond to a request for comment.
