Autopsy: no foul play in Bellingham death

BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) - The Whatcom County medical examiner says an autopsy of a man found dead in a ditch revealed no signs of foul play.

Medical Examiner Gary Goldfogel on Tuesday said the specific cause of death of the 52-year-old transient man remained under investigation, pending toxicology tests. But it's likely he died of drug use or of natural causes related to heart disease.

The Bellingham Herald says a landscaping crew found the body Monday afternoon in a muddy ditch overgrown with cattails. Investigators believe he had been dead for some time. He had not been reported missing.
