Attention young musicians: The deadline for Sound Off! is approaching

Think you've got what it takes to become the next Lonely Forest, Sol, Kithkin, or Dyme Def? If you're under 21 years old and live in the Northwest, now's the time to get that demo tape together and submit it to one of the region's largest showcase of young musicians.

Since 2001, the Experience Music Project has hosted Sound Off!, which helps connect young musicians from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia with the Pacific Northwest's legendary scene.

Of the applications, 12 semifinalists are picked to compete in three rounds of concerts. From those three performances, four advance to a final concert, held at the EMP. All 12 semifinalists receive plenty of press, as well as critical media training, a professional photo shoot, and participation in a music industry panel. They also get the chance to perform live.

Finalists receive prizes such as studio and recording time, radio airplay, gear, and slots at festivals in the region.

Soloists and groups from all genres are encouraged to play, and winners and participants have spanned from indie rock bands and electronic projects to hip-hop artists.

Previous Sound Off! participants include Idiot Pilot, Grand Hallway, Schoolyard Heroes, Beat Connection, and members of Hey Marseilles.

You can get more information about Sound Off! from the EMP's website.
