Bellevue police spokeswoman Carla Iaafrate says the suspect was taken into custody after surrendering to officers at about 10:20 a.m. Thursday.
Police and SWAT team officers earlier had responded to the Bellefield Manor Apartments near Bellevue Way and 108th Ave SE after an armed man barricaded himself inside his apartment.
Traffic was rerouted around the area during the standoff and all the surrounding apartments were evacuated.
The drama began at about 2:05 a.m. Thursday when a neighbor came over to the suspect's apartment to play chess. Soon afterward, the suspect became angry and began talking crazy, pointing a gun at the neighbor.
The neighbor fled the man's apartment and called 911. Police responded, and the standoff began.
The man refused to leave his apartment for hours as tear gas canisters were fired one after another. Eventually he decided to give up, bringing the incident to a close, Iafrate said.
