Alaska ferry worker injured at Bellingham terminal

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- A worker with the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system was injured Friday afternoon while helping load the ferry at the Bellingham dock.

Just after 3:20 p.m., the worker was lowering the passenger ramp onto the ferry Columbia when something caused the ramp to land suddenly on her, Bellingham port officials said.

She was rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital in Bellingham with multiple injuries but her exact condition was not known.

The ferry suffered some minor damage on its stern and officials said the Friday evening departure would be delayed until they fix the ramp and complete their investigation.
