7 displaced by fire at Auburn apartment building

AUBURN, Wash. - Flames raced through an Auburn apartment building early Friday, displacing seven people but causing no injuries.

Firefighters responded to the scene, a four-unit residential complex in the 2200 block of "O" Street NE in Auburn, at about 3:25 a.m. after receiving a report of a structure fire.

As crews arrived, they could see heavy fire billowing from a first-floor unit of the two-story building. Firefighters aggressively attacked the blaze and protected adjacent structures.

After the flames were extinguished, firefighters confirmed all seven occupants of the building were able to safely evacuate. They were moved to a warm King County Metro bus as arrangements are made to find temporary housing for them.

Officials said the burned apartment building provided transitional housing for people recently released from jail or others overcoming addiction.
