The incident began at about 8 p.m. when a man got into a verbal argument with one of the three suspects at the park. The suspect punched the other man in the face, breaking his jaw, said Detective Jeff Kappel of the Seattle police.
Another group of men nearby tried to break up the fight. At that point a second suspect who was with the assault suspect pulled a small handgun out of his pocket.
One of the men in the group who broke up the fight wrestled the gun out of the hand of the second suspect and then tried to hold that suspect until police could arrive.
That's when a third suspect with the first two approached, pulled out a handgun and fired one round into the ground next to the man who had taken the gun from the second suspect.
That man then released the second suspect, and all three suspects fled the scene, Kappel said.
Officers arrived and sealed off the entrance to the park while the area was searched, but no one was found and the suspects remain at large.
Nobody was injured as a result of the gunfire.
Anyone with information or who may know the identities or whereabouts of any of the involved suspects is asked to call 911 or Seattle Police. Anonymous tips are welcome.
