2 killed in B.C. diving accident identified as from Puget Sound area

VICTORIA, B.C. -- Two men who died in a scuba diving accident in British Columbia Friday have been identified as from the Puget Sound area.

Robert Young, 60, of Olympia, and 38-year-old Harold Burkholder of Kent died while attempting a deep technical dive in an area known as "the wall" at Snake Island, a small island just east of Nanaimo Harbor, the British Columbia Coronor's Service said Thursday.

Scott managed to return to the surface during the dive but collapsed a short time later and could not be revived. Burkholder never resurfaced and his body was found two days later about 256 feet down by a commercial diver who was searching for the body.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are still investigating what went wrong with the dive.
