The incident unfolded when the mother of the two children called police and said the children's father had contacted her to say he was going to the school to pick up one of the children, in violation of a domestic protection order, said Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock.
When the mother told the father that he could not take the child, the father implied he had a handgun and would "have a shoot-out with police," Schrock said.
One of the children attends Sacajawea Middle School and the other attends Todd Beamer High School. Both schools were locked down since it was unclear which child the father was intending to pick up.
Classes continued as usual during the lockdowns. No shots were fired, and no one was hurt.
The lockdowns were later lifted as police contacted the father and questioned him.
