On Monday morning, the Denny International Middle School student told staff members she was walking home through the park last Thursday at roughly 3:30 p.m. when a stranger grabbed her, pulled her into a nearby bathroom and raped her, according to police.
School administrators immediately called police to report the attack.
In a note sent home to parents, the principals of both Denny International and Chief Sealth International High School advised students to pay extra attention to their surroundings. "Students, please report anything that happens to you to any adult at school and at home right away-we are all here to help in any way that is needed," the letter reads.
West Seattle parents out at the park Monday were disturbed.
"I don't even know what to say. I'm on the verge of tears," said Amanda Kayhelmick. Her son Jonas played in the sand with other friends while she wiped tears into her woolen gloves.
"This is a gem and jewel of the neighborhood," she said.
Kayhelmick helped form a community council after crimes earlier this year when older teens with shotguns were robbing younger children.
Police have not released a description of the attacker in this case. The investigation is ongoing.
