State troopers responded to the scene, about five miles south of Quilcene, at about 3:25 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report of a serious crash.
A preliminary investigation found that the 26-year-old was heading north on Highway 101 on a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle when he veered across the center line into the southbound lane on a right-hand curve.
His motorcycle slammed into an oncoming 2012 Harley Davidson driven by a 45-year-old Port Hadlock man. Both motorcyclists were ejected from their bikes.
The Suzuki rider, later identified as Nicholas H. Montague, 26, of Lacey, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The Harley Davidson rider was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries.
The highway was blocked for more than seven hours after the crash for the investigation.
It was the second deadly crash involving a motorcycle over the weekend.
In the first crash, on Saturday, a 48-year-old man from Graham and a 50-year-old woman from Spanaway were killed on Highway 101 when the driver of an SUV crossed into their lane struck and their motorcycle.
